We brought our gigging year to a close last weekend, with another couple of fast and fun sets.
On Saturday we played the annual Antipop 'Fuck Christmas' bash at Maguire's in Liverpool. Like all of their gigs, it was well promoted, well organised and well attended - a success all round. Paper Wings opened up with perhaps the liveliest, most melodic and powerful acoustic set we have yet seen. They were terrific. We played next - at full volume, thankfully, as I wouldn't fancy following Paper Wings at an acoustic gig. Pete Bentham and his dinner people were up next - as tight and professional as ever, and pulled rock'n'rollers from the gig two doors down at 81 Renshaw Street, such is their quality and reputation. Matilda's Scoundrels brought the whole shebang to a close, with a riotous folk-sea-shanty-punk set, which suited the convivial Maguire's mood to a tea. Thanks to Tony, Alec, Villy, Terry, Ian and each of the other three bands for a really good night.
on Sunday we were at the Old Town House in Warrington for a charity do in support of Mind and the Samaritans. An eclectic bill of acoustic and electric acts built the mood and crowd nicely, and it was a treat to see Paper Wings for the second night in succession. It was also a treat to see Riggots as a three piece, for the first time; as powerful and mesmerising as they were with just drums and guitar, the addition of a bassist has given them a much more rounded and even more powerful sound that does their riffs justice; I think they will go far. The night raised £200 for the good causes, so thank you Adam and friends for organising it and inviting us to play.
So here it is, merry Christmas from FB4; have a present, just from us.
